iStent User Meeting 2025

On May 10, we held what our long-time moderator, Prof. Khairidzan described as the best iStent user meeting of the past decade.

Looking at Singapore and Malaysia as a whole, our journey began in February 2014—and we’ve made remarkable progress since then.

Prof. Mimiwati discussed Interventional Glaucoma (IG) management and shared compelling combined data from 88 eyes treated at UKM, UM, and UIA, with a four-year follow-up.

Dr. Tang Seng Fai and Dr. Puspha also presented their data. Interestingly, despite not coordinating beforehand, their findings were strikingly aligned:

1. MIGS is significantly reducing the proportion of drainage device surgeries.

2. iStent now represents approximately 60% of all MIGS procedures in their practices.

Dr. Choong Yean Yaw contributed a series of surgical videos—from G2 to the latest innovations—emphasizing his key tip: focus on the trocar, not the trabecular meshwork, to achieve the most precise iStent placement. Notably, he demonstrated his unique approach to handling three stents, always beginning with the most challenging angle—for example, the 5 o’clock position in the right eye (OD)—before proceeding to the 3 o’clock placement.

As we reflect on this memorable evening, it’s clear that the iStent journey in Malaysia and Singapore has reached a significant milestone.
